The Pakayak is a 14 foot Kayak that comes apart into 6 sections! The 6 sections nest inside of each other like a Russian nesting doll making it easy to store and transport. I am able to fit two 14ft Pakayaks inside my 4 door Jeep Wrangler!

The Oru Kayak Bay ST is a lightweight foldable Kayak that is easy to store in an apartment or stuff into your tiny car without the need of a kayak roof rack!

The Hyperlite Mountain Gear 4400 is by far my favorite backpack for backpacking. It is one of the larger backpacks the Hyperlite makes but being able to be rolled down, makes it easily adaptable for longer trips. I love the extra space for snow shoe trips when I have extra snow gear!

The Osprey Atmos 65 holds a special place in my heart, it was my first nice backpacking backpack. The Osprey Atmos 65 is the most comfy backpack you can wear while hiking on the trails. The mesh backing hugs your back and has great airflow for those of us with sweaty backs.

The Osprey Atmos 65 served me well carrying all my supplies for 65 miles across the rugged High Sierra Trail.

Jet Boil is one of the best ways to quickly, and efficiently boil water on the trail. Jet Boil is not the lightest option for cooking on the trail, but it is also not the heaviest. From boiling water to melting snow, the Jet Boil is easy to use and has lasted many miles of trails. I never leave on a backpacking/camping trip without it!

MSR Dromedary is an awesome water bladder! I normally do not hike with water bladders and prefer large water bottles, but I will take the MSR Dromedary on desert hikes or other remote hikes without water sources. The MSR Dromedary is the best way to haul large loads of water. I have used the MSR Dromedary in Joshua Tree and on kayak camping trips where we had to carry all our own water.

The best part of the MSR Dromedary is that it is rugged! This water bladder unlike most has reinforced skin to prevent pops and leaks.

The Goal Zero Nomad is a fantastic light weight solar charger you can bring with you to charge your electronic devices out in the backcountry! I have taken the Goal Zero Nomad on multiple week long trips charging everything from GoPro batteries, cell phones, and GPS devices. With direct sun light its just as good as being plugged in at home!

One great feature of the Goal Zero Nomad is that it has a light indicator to show how strong a charge you are receiving from the sun. If the indicator is low, you can easily re-position the Nomad until you are getting full charging power!

The Nemo Dagger 2p is a fantastic two person tent for backpacking or car camping trips. Coming in at about 3 pounds it is not the lightest 2 person tent on the market but it is a free standing tent which is why I take it on all my backpacking trips.

A free standing tent means the tent will stand up on its own, and you do not need to stake out guy lines to keep it upright. This helps when you are hiking in locations where you may not have soft ground where you can stake out the tent. Its just one less thing to worry about when picking out a camp spot.

The HMG Flat Tarp is absolutely bomb proof! I took this tarp into the Sierra Nevada Mountains and got caught in a snow storm in it! It held up fantastic under all the snow.

If I want to travel fast and light, the HMG Flat Tarp is my go to shelter. It is also great to bring and pair with your favorite bivy!

The Sony A9 is my camera of choice for almost all my photography on Seek Adventure. The Sony A9 is a 24.2 mega-pixel full frame mirror-less camera. I have taken this camera hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, you name it this camera has traveled with me all over the place!

On paper the Sony A9 has some impressive stats, it can shoot up to 20 frames per second with eye auto focus and has in body image stabilization. What I love about this camera is its versatility, it can shoot fast and capture a cheetah running at the San Diego Safari Park or can be set up on a tripod and take incredible landscapes. What I really love is that it has a lot of physical dials on it, so I do not have to go into a digital menu. Using the physical dials and buttons allows me to quickly switch from shooting a landscape to catching a bird mid flight.

The Tamron 28-75mm lens is fantastic and will not destroy your wallet. Similar lenses will cost twice as much! Not only is the Tamron 28-75mm lens a very fair price, it takes fantastic pictures that are perfectly sharp. 90% of the pictures I take while hiking are with the Tamron 28-75mm. Its great for quick trail portraits and quick landscapes, and keeps me from changing the lens a lot while moving on the trail. Lastly this lens comes in at a great weight, and is a lot lighter then similar lenses in this focal length range.

The Sony 85mm lens is a newer lens to my camera gear. This lens is another fantastic steal for its price, and being a prime lens is super sharp! 85mm lenses are usually used for portraits, but I have had a lot of fun shooting some unique landscapes with this lens! With the f1.8 aperture you can really play with depth of field either blurring the background or the foreground.

The Peak Design Travel Tripod is the Porsche of camera tripods. Its beautiful yet functional design wastes no space when collapsed making it one of the most compact full sized tripods you can pack. I never don't skimp out and take a tiny ultralight tripod on my adventure, I want something strong and sturdy.

The Peak Design Travel Tripod comes in at 2.81 pounds for the carbon fiber model. Its a pricey tripod, but Peak Design does have an unlimited guarantee that is fantastic!

The Peak Design Capture Clip is hands down on of my favorite inventions of all time. This is another piece of gear that I will not leave home without! I love photography and take my camera with me on all my backpacking trips and hiking trips. The Peak Design Capture Clip allows me to secure my camera to my backpack strap so it is ready at a moments notice. While hiking, my camera is always ready for a shot on the trail!

This is the third version of the Peak Design Capture clip and it is absolutely beautiful, smooth aluminum. Its lightweight and secure, I have never had an issue with my camera falling out. After miles and miles of trails in all conditions it still works just as well as it did on day one!

The Hydrapak Recon water bottle is hands down my favorite 1L water bottle. Not only is it made from 50% recycled plastic, but it also is super functional. The water bottle has an awesome twist lock top that has one of the best mouth feels while drinking form it. I wrote an in depth of the Hydrapak Recon water bottle that you can read here.

The Outdoor Research Alpine Bivy is fantastic! I use this on solo trips or when I want to be fast and light. I like Bivy sacks because you can set up shelter in an instant and pack up just as quick!

The Alpine Bivy is very well made out of bomb proof Gortex. I also use this Bivy while snow shoeing in Yosemite.

The InReach is hand down one of my favorite pieces of electronic gear that I take on the trail. Its a GPS device that has two way satellite communications, meaning you can text friends and family and they can text you back! I bout my InReach for a 75 mile trip along the High Sierra Trail for peace of mind. If you get hurt on the trail and have no cell phone coverage you can use this to contact your family or the SOS button to call for help.

One other often overlooked feature of the InReach is that you can also request weather reports. This has come in handy on kayak camping trips where we were interested in the wind for the next few days.

I have been through a lot of different water filtration devices over the years and right now the LifeStraw Flex Advanced gravity filter is my favorite. Its my first gravity filter and I love just setting it up and leaving it alone while filtering. It's nice not having to sit there with it and hand pump it the entire time.

The ENO Double Hammock is awesome to keep in your day pack to through up and instantly have a place to kick up your feet and relax on the trail. I like the ENO double because you can fit two people in it, or if you are by yourself you can cocoon yourself in it to block out the sun in your face. Do not forget to pick up some good Hammock Straps as well!

The Klymit Double Sleeping pad is the best double inflatable sleeping pad on the market. If you are going camping with your significant other this is a must purchase. Comfortable fits two adults on an inflatable mattress! The stuff stack it comes in works as a pump for quicker inflation!

The Enlightened Equipment Accomplice is a two person sleeping quilt. This is what we use when we go camping, and it the first camping quilt I have used instead of a sleeping bag. Camping quilts are awesome because they are a lot less weight then their equivalent sleeping bag. THe other great thing about the quilt is that if you sleep hot and your significant other sleeps cool, you can easily open your end a little so you don't melt!

Enlightened Equipment is a fantastic small retailed where you can customize your camping quilt, colors and amount of fluff depending how warm you want to make it! We love our Enlightened Equipment Accomplice, and it pairs perfectly with the Klyimit Double Sleeping pad!

The Matador Lens base layer is fantastic ultralight camera lens protection. I own two of these, and use them to protect my camera lenses on day hikes and longer backpacking trips. The Matador Lens base layer is water proof and has some light fluff to give your camera lenses some protection when you through them in your backpack!

Pictured here is the Garmin Fenix 6 (Alway choose the latest model!), but I have the Garmin Fenix 5s. I would love to upgrade soon, but I have loved my Garmin Fenix 5s as well. The Garmin Fenix line is the premiere outdoor hiking gps watch made by Garmin. It basically does it all, and new models even have some solar charging capabilities that allow for even more extended battery life! What I love about the Garmin Fenix is the battery life and customizable workout watch faces. When I hike I have maps/elevation profiles all at a quick glance on my wrist!

I have worn a lot of boots and the Salomon Quest 4D are my current go to for hiking, especially with large loads. For day hikes I will sometimes wear trail shoes but most of the time I prefer a god boot. I feel a good boot helps save my knees especially when I have a heavy backpack on.

The Salomon Quest 4D are very comfortable and very lightweight for a full rugged boot. One of my favorite features is the locking eyelets for the laces midway up. This helps me get the exact tightness I want when tying my boots.

If you spend a lot of time hiking or backpacking, you are sure to put some holes in some hiking socks. Darn Tough Socks are exactly what their name implies, darn tough! Other than being Darn Tough and Darn comfortable, the best part of these socks is their lifetime warranty! If you manage to put a hole in your darn tough socks, you can ship them back and Darn Tough will replace them for free!

The Icebreaker Tech Lite is an awesome Marino Wool t-shirt. It may seem expensive when compared to your typical cotton T-shirt, but cotton should never be worn while hiking and can be dangerous in colder temps.

The magic with Marino Wool is that it dries quickly! The Icebreaker Tech Lite is fantastic for those sweaty days on the trail because it will quickly dry during breaks! The other great thing about Marino Wool is that it does not get as smelly as other materials so your hiking partner wont be disgusted by you sweating.

The Icebreaker Tech Lite is my only hiking/backpacking t-shirt and has a whole lot of miles on it and it still looks great. No issues with durability so far!

The Arc'teryx Lefroy Pants are my go to hiking pants. They are light weight so I have no issues wearing them in warmer temperatures and they are extremely comfy on the trail.

The pants include a nice flat belt, which does not interfere with hip belts on backpacks and is a nice touch if you need to tighten your pants up on the trail. On backing trips I often loose a little weight so an included belt is perfect! You do not want your pants falling down on the last day or two of hiking!

I also really like the single pocket on the thigh. Normal side pockets can be difficult to get items in and out of when you have a backpack hip belt on.

The Arc'teryx Alpha FL is a fantastic light weight but rugged rain coat. The coat packs down the the size of a small water bottle for easy storage in your pack.

The light weight Alpha FL has minimum features with only one pocket on the chest and no pit zips, but it does have one of the best hoods I have ever worn in a jacket. The hood has adjusters that make it stay on and useful while you are hiking. It move with your head and does not obstruct visibility.

Weighing only about 8 ounces the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer jacket is one of the warmest jackets for its weight! This is one jacket that I always have in my backpack, it packs down to the size of a small water bottle!

I cant say enough how warm and comfortable this jacket is. I tend to wear this at camp at night or on top of high summits when its nice and cold. I do not leave with out this jacket, its one of my favorite pieces of gear!

The Nemo Switchback is my favorite foam sleeping pad. I use the foam sleeping pad on a lot of trips. If I need to move fast and light I will always choose this foam pad over any inflatable sleeping pad. Not only is the Nemo Switchback ultralight but laying it out and putting it away in the morning is super easy and quick which allows you to get back on the trail quickly. Rolling and stuffing an inflatable back into its sack is never fun.

I also always bring this foam pad in addition to an inflatable if I am snowshoe camping in the snow. Combining a foam sleeping pad along with an inflatable is great for extra warmth!

The Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pants are a newer addition to my backpacking wardrobe. I purchased these pants for hiking in colder conditions. I love my Arc'teryx Leroy pants but they are way to thin to take into the snow.

I recently took the Arc'teryx Gamma AR pants on a snowshoe backcountry camping trip in Yosemite National park and they held up great. The pants are warm and their DWR coating fought off the snow and ice storm we hiked through on day one perfectly!

When camping or Overlanding with the Jeep we like to sometimes enjoy a nice bottle of wine while sitting under the stars. The Hydroflask Wine Bottle is fantastic for camping because it is double wall insulated which keeps the wine from getting too hot or too could depending on your adventure.

If you plan on brining multiple bottles of wine on a trip I recomend buying different colors so you can determine which Hydroflask is which bottle of wine!

The Black Diamond Revolt is one of my favorite headlamps because it is rechargeable via micro USB. Most headlamps still have AA or AAA batteries and if you don't swap out new batteries before each trip you will not have a full charge. The micro USB recharge feature also allows you to charge the headlamp off a solar panel or USB battery pack if you bring either of those on your trip.

I decided to switch to a rechargeable headlamp after hiking on Santa Rosa Island. I normally don't use my headlamp much on most backpacking trips but on this trip we had to filter a lot of water half way across the island. The water filtering took longer than we thought it would and we ended up having to hike far in the middle of the night with no moon. I was worried the entire time that my headlamp was going to die since I knew it wasn't a full charge.

The Stohlquist Edge PFD is a fantastic personal flotation device for kayaking. I love the Stohlquist Edge PFD because it's super comfortable and tight fitting, but does not limit my range of motion while paddling. It also has a large front pocket for holding your cell phone (In a waterproof case) and or your sunglasses. If taking your kayak out in the ocean, it's nice to be able to put your sunglasses in the zippered pouch while you are breaking through the surf so you don't lose them to the ocean. Lastly it has a nice side zipper making it easy to put on or take off when you are down paddling.

The Aqua X Sport from Xero Shoes is an awesome water shoe. When wet it doesnt hold any water, they are super light on your feet and have awesome traction in any environment! I got these to use while kayaking so I wouldnt slip or cut my feet up while pushing off from rocky or muddy locations.

I also tested the Aqua X Sport out in Hawaii on the Island of Kauai. These shoes were fantastic for hikes on the wet island. These shoes were great for hikes on the island becausae we were often hiking through rivers and streams or deep mud. Being a great water shoe they did not hold onto the water after hiking through rivers and the big lugs for traction on the bottom were fantastic in the deep mud on the trail.

The HMG Camera Pod is an ultralight protective camera case with multiple attachment options. The Camera Pod is a great piece of gear to carry your camera in the backcountry with quick easy access so you nail the perfect photograph.

I tested out the HMG Camera Pod while out backpacking Coyote Gulch, on a two day one night trip. The Camera Pod kept my Sony A9 Camera safe while scrambling down cliffs into the beutiful canyon. I wrote an in-depth Camera Pod review that you can read here.

The Sea to Summit Ultra-SIL Compression sack is one of the best waterproof compression sacks on the market. It has 4 straps that you can pull on to get the most compressed packing of a sleeping bag. This is a great way to save precious space in your backpack!

In this picture I have a large two person sleeping quilt that I made. When fully compressed the Sea to Summit Ultra-SIL Compression Dry Sack is about the same height as a Nalgene water bottle!

The 48oz Nalgene is my go to water bottle on most hikes and backpacking trips. I usualy take one on a day hike and 2 or more on a backpacking trip.

Most Nalgene water bottles you see are 32oz. This 48oz Nalgene is the taller brother and holds an extra 16 ounces of water.

The MSR XGK-EX stove is a trustworthy liquid fuel stove that, that is at home on any advenuture. I particulary use this stove for my winter backpacking adventures. Gas stoves can have issues in cold temperatures, because the gas can condense into a liquid and then the stove will not work. With liquid fuel stoves you do not have this issue, which is why I love them for cold weather adventures. We used this stove on our Winter Clouds Rest Yosemite Climb.

The other great part about liquid fuel stoves is the fuel containers are much easier to refill, then their gas stove counterparts. I dont know about you but I have a handful of partially filled gas stove canisters in my garage. With this liquid stove, I just refill the MSR containers and there is much less waste and impact on the environment.
